Books You may purchase the following books as printed versions or as e-books (the preferred method).
What’s an “e-book,” you might ask? Electronic books, or “e-books,” are available through a digital environment, e.g., the Internet. After you purchase the book you want, you receive a link that allows you to download the e-book to your computer. As the purchaser of the e-book, you are entitled to view it at any time, or print (for your personal use) any portion of the book. Some people prefer to print a copy of their e-books, while others prefer to keep it saved on their computers to access at any time. Of course, copyright laws preclude you from sending it to anyone else, just as you are not allowed to photocopy a printed text for distribution to others.
Having an e-book is so great because you can print out full-color pages for your students or you can print out one page to then make photocopies for your students. Either way, it’s quite handy (and it’s less expensive to purchase the e-books! What a deal!).
Quantity discounts are available—so consider giving these as gifts, promotional items, or thank-you's to colleagues, co-workers, friends, and family.

The Giver: An Integrated Unit (Meggin McIntosh, Ph.D.)
The Newbery-Award winning book, The Giver, cries out to be read and responded to. This booklet contains a full unit (45 different learning activities for students) and is designed and appropriate for 6th graders through high school students.
This integrated unit is based on my favorite teaching/learning model: Frank E. Williams’ Model: Teaching Strategies for Thinking and Feeling. He developed this model nearly forty years ago and I learned about it over twenty years ago when I was teaching at a high school for gifted students in Dallas, Texas (the Talented and Gifted Magnet High School). This model has influenced my planning and teaching ever since--even at the colleage level and with workshops and seminars I plan for adults.
In the e-book, I offer a brief introduction to the model so you have a sense of “where I was coming from” in planning this integrated unit on The Giver. In a nutshell, the purpose of using Williams’ Model in lesson planning is to develop ways to enhance the cognitive and affective processes involved in creativity and productivity in all learners. Williams says that the purpose of using his model is "not to make more children creative, but to release and recognize more creativity in all children."
From over twenty years of personal experience using Williams' model, I can report that not only does it increase students’ creativity, but it also increases the classroom teacher’s creativity. It is a powerful model and one that I find fascinating to use and to teach. You will enjoy using and teaching this unit on The Giver.
Once you purchase, you will receive the link that will allow you to download, save, and then print the entire book or just the pages that you are ready to use with your students right now.

Learning Logs for the Content Area Classroom (Meggin McIntosh, Ph.D.)
The term "learning log" is not one that I originated, but it is one that fits my philosophy of how writing across the curriculum "looks" in the content area classroom. The purpose of having students complete learning logs is for them to reflect on what they are learning and to learn while they are reflecting on what they are learning. The learning logs are designed to give students various types of writing tasks to complete as they learn and reflect on their learning.
Once you purchase, you will receive the link that will allow you to download, save, and then print the entire book or just the pages that you are ready to use with your students right now.

The Organized Teacher (Terra Graves, M.Ed.)
This special e-book, which is subtitled "A Guide for Beginning Teachers," is written by Terra Graves, a mentor teacher in Reno, Nevada. She is recognized for her ability to connect with new teachers and to provide useful, practical ideas that can be implemented right away. Just what the new teacher needs! Although the book is written for the brand new teacher, the ideas are useful to any teacher needing to get more organized.
Teachers' heads are spinning thinking about all they need to do to get their classrooms ready for that first day of school. This book helps teachers alleviate some of that stress to get themselves organized and ready. There's no need to worry about a thing because there are over 100 ideas in this book to help set up a classroom, organize files, plan the year, grade and keep records, communicate with parents, organize students, and use time wisely. There are also some very useful forms, lists, and sample letters.
With all of the curriculum teachers need to think about and plan, these classroom-tested ideas help educators take care of the “business” of teaching in the most efficient manner. When you and your classroom are organized, teaching will be as fun as you have been hoping it would be. You can spend more time on the important things: your students!
